Special Marketing...

If you're male and go to clubs, you've seen ads posted above urinals.

Sometimes the sports page from today's paper.

Lately I've started noticing a small shelf where you can sit down your beer.

I heard a joke that one way to keep people on their toes is to raise the urinals.

But I digress.

I have seen ads on the bathroom wall in bars by lawyers who specialize in defending against a DUI ticket. Even drank from beer cups with an attorney's name and logo.

Now I have worn a DUI wristband ad.

(OK, I took the picture later. I wasn't drinking at a club at 6:20 in the evening.)

In marketing, as in duck hunting, you go where they are flying.

It also would deliver the cautionary message to both males and females.

Don't try dialing that number. I changed it to the one they always use in movies and on tv.

No sober free ads here.

(Thanks for stopping to see what this was all about. Semper Fi. It's 6:20 somewhere.)

I Think Lawyers Are Involved ....

I have a Canon s90 digital camera.

The type that are called Point and Shoot or P/S.

Small enough that I usually have it with me. Hey, It really is pocket-size.

There's even a tiny computer inside the small body.

This Smart camera enables me to take some pretty spectacular photos.

Using its "manual" mode I can change shutter speeds, film speed and lens openings so it performs in low light to bright sun at the beach and everything in between.

But the lawyers at Canon Camera assume I might do something dumb with this smart instrument.

Or that I might be angry enough to sue somebody.

Maybe even sue Canon if the camera stopped working.

Say underwater.

I have settings on a dial that can make foliage greener, sunsets warmer, portraits softer and slow down speeds to capture fireworks at night.

I can make indoor lighting look like shots taken outdoors or freeze the fast action of frisky kids and dogs.

It never occurred to me to dunk it under water.

Guess we have to be protected from ourselves.

(Click on the pictures for more detail. Remember, if there's a sign prohibiting something, that means someone tried to do it. Stay warm but don't set yourself on fire. That's probably illegal.)

But ...they DO sit on top of your lap!

A gathering of local bloggers is a special time to learn and share. Today, at a downtown meet up of some online buddies, I was reminded that laptops are no longer called that.

For some reason they now are called "notebooks." ??

I don't have a lapto..er, I mean, notebook and am quite happy with my 4-year old PC but I remember when they went by the previous - and very obvious - name.

Were there incidents of heat generated causing laps to catch fire? Did lawyers get involved? A notebook brings to mind a stubby pencil and a yellow pad with the wide line spacing. A friendly image and non-threatening. Well, reporters carry notebooks too.

Joan posted pictures she took this morning of us sipping African coffee at Kudu and I wanted to add one that included her. Most photographers remain behind the camera and we miss seeing their face. Here's L-R: Xark, Braintube and Walk This Way.

Pull the photo up on your lapbook.

New meaning for "Throwing a shower"

Today a plumber recommended by my faithful Handyman showed up on time - with his wife as a helper - and in less than a day, completely re-piped my 50 year old plumbing system from 1/2 inch to 3/4. They hooked up the 3" drain for the massive new 4' x 5' shower project, brought water to the waiting valves for the six showerheads, took out (and hauled away) the old 40 gallon tank water heater and tied everything into my NEW Rennai tankless water heaters.

A switch was flipped and continuous hot water flowed for the first time through the revamped system. But, as soon as you turn off the tap....the hot water stops. Then it waits patiently to be called on again. No tank of water being reheated over and over all day and night. They say it will pay for itself in energy savings...if I live to be 175 years old.

Last week I bought all the "trim", the chrome shiny handles and thermo-mixer and parts that will be seen against the tile. There will be TWO sets of adjustable body sprays, an 8" rain shower centered above which creates gentle raindrops falling on my head and a hand-held shower that is self-cleaning and adjustable from fine spray to pounding massage.

The people who will do the tile work are coming by later tonight to show me marble samples. They are due to start around the 17th and anticipate about 3 days to completion. Whew.

As they say on the tv show SCRUBS, what did we learn today?

IF you decide to use a general contractor, get one that your friends or someone you trust has used. Get references and talk with his/her former (hopefully happy) clients and PAY NO MONEY in advance. The good ones will take care of ALL the details, secure the required permits, hire qualified and dependable licensed craftsmen, proceed in a timely manner and help you avoid costly missteps. The lousy ones seem to convince me to hire them and sign on the dotted line. Make sure the contract protects YOU and not just the contractor.

My project stretches back to April 20 when my shower/tub was ripped out but now I see a light at the end of the shower stall.

I also see lawyers in my future - and small claims court - but that's another story.
