Bundled For The Blues ....BRR
Low Country Blues Bash included a great blues act on the harbor last night.
The venue was listed as the
Reel Bar at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina.
Actually it was in a tented area BEHIND the bar. With plastic panels. And numerous gas heat lamps.
Well, yes, it WAS warmer than Chicago.
You could see the breath of the
Frankie's Blues Mission trio. And the breath of the audience members.
A few weeks ago I started taking a look at Charleston restaurants and bars that had cozy fireplaces. Guess I better add those that have heat lamps too.
I'm not complaining. Not really.
It's the 21st Annual and each February, the weather is a gamble.
I salute Gary Erwin for producing this year after year and providing a GREAT festival each time.
I'll be toasty warm INSIDE the
IOP Rec Center tonight 5:00-8:30 enjoying Gary (aka Shrimp City Slim) on keys and Miss Wanda Johnson,
followed by the
Planet D Nonet. Then to the nearby Morgan Street Grill for
Freddie Vanderford/Brandon Turner and ending at Home Team BBQ on Sullivan's Island for
Ten Foot Polecats from Boston.
Sunday it's back to the REC CENTER on IOP again 2:00-5:30.
This will be followed by a mad dash home for some pizza and commercials and the
Super Bowl.

SNOW weather is COLD weather.
So it was a
White (Day After)
Christmas in Charleston.
Philadelphia and Boston wished they had a "snow" like ours.
The winter storm that slammed into the upper East Coast caused delays for Santa, drivers, airlines and even the NFL.
Charleston was at the bottom of that wintery misery scale. Thank goodness.
We had our "heavy" snow back in February. The polite one that fell at night and was gone by noon.
My cat Wally is very definitely an
Inside/Outside kind of pet.
Usually he is on the wrong side of the door and wants to be
"over there" instead.
In..he wants out. Out.. he wants to be in.
He was really thinking "Inside is better" as he stared through the patio door.
It wasn't the snow so much as it was the low temps.
That orange striped fur coat looks pretty warm.
Of course I let him in, picked him up and shivered when I felt the cold, cold pads of his feet.
More Kibble for kitty. Maybe a treat too.
Brrr. Purr.

Piccolo Fringe Finale at Theatre 99
Another delightful back-to-back comedy feast at Theatre 99. It was the last one for THIS 17-day arts festival,2009.
The good news: Charleston improv comedy continues all year long.
Greg Tavares welcomed the sold out crowd Saturday night and proudly proclaimed his group
The Have Nots has been active now for 14 years and the insanity will continue. Hooray!
The first 90-minute show was
Upright Citizens Brigade. They announced they were the touring company of USB as opposed to the real people I guess you would see if you caught the show up in Boston.
A sweet volunteer came onstage and they rifled her purse, wallet, her several id badges as well as her Weight Watchers diary to gather fodder for the first half of their show. They ran with it and a great exaggerated image emerged.
Shouted actions and places came from the audience for the comedy flashpoints the rest of the evening.
The next show - the finale - was almost three hours of hilarity. Many of the performers from the last two weeks came back for the reprise and all the stops were pulled out. Rude words were heard. Lewd actions were pantomimed. In short, a good time was had by all and only one couple seemed to have disappeared.
The troupe
Cupid Has A Heart On offered a final salute to the applauding audience.
My stint as an ersatz Spoleto reporter has ended for another year. I hope I'm invited to play again next year.
